Come dance in the willows, the moon is still high.
The world is asleep, there’s no one to spy.
The valley is humming the songs of July,
and the whippoorwill answers in metered reply…
Whippoorwill. Whippoorwill.
Will you dance if I play my flute for you?
We can stir up the night with a suite for two.
Feel the grass with your toes in the cool evening dew.
Till the call of the first crow of dawn
Come away, come away, in the valley we’ll play.
Like children set free on a lark.
Follow the leader or follow your heart,
to kindle a blaze from a spark.
